Closely related to Alocasias and Colocasias, the genus Xanthosoma mainly consists of plants cultivated as food crops in South America (their origin) and throughout the Carribbean and beyond and known commonly as "Taro", as well as many regional names in various languages. This beautiful variegated variety is marked by mint-green, arrowhead shaped leaves with upper "ears" tipped in a beautiful, buttery yellow. The resulting impression reminds some folks of Walt Disney's greatest creation! Easy to grow, they do enjoy a good deal of moisture during their active growing season, so water 2 to 3 times per week during spring and summer, and cut back to once a week in fall and winter. The taxonomy (scientific nomenclature) on this plant is still being debated, so you may see them listed as Alocasias or with differing species names. But "Mickey" will do just fine!
